Don't make these mistakes

Don’t make these mistakes:

Thinking that finances and church business issues are necessary evils to be tolerated by your church.

  • In fact, your church finances are a key indicator of your church’s health and ministry priorities.
  • The functional structures of your church are critical to its health and growth.

Believing that accurate church financial and tax records aren’t that important.

  • The accuracy of your financial statements is a huge contributor to the trust relationship you have with your congregation. If such statements are not transparent, accurate, and readable, people will hesitate to give to the church.
  • If church and minister tax records and filings are not in order, IRS fines, penalties, and headaches await the church and its ministers.

Expecting yourself to be able to handle not only the people, vision, and preaching side of ministry, but the the financial and business side too.

  • No one person has all of the gifts necessary to run a church. Effective pastors realize this and team up with others who have the gifts they don’t so the pastor can focus on what God has gifted him to do.
